Constructed in the 1870s for Hugh Robert Hughes, a prominent copper tycoon known for his extravagant lifestyle, this magnificent residence was a remarkable architectural endeavor. Originally designed as a grand family home, it later served various purposes throughout its history.
Over the years, the estate accommodated multiple families before being converted into a boys' school. Following its time as an educational institution, it transformed into a spa catering to patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. During World War II, the property was repurposed once again, this time serving as a military convalescent center, providing care for soldiers recovering from their injuries.
Kinmel Hall has a storied history, particularly following World War II. After the war, the mansion was repurposed as a school for girls and later transformed into a Christian conference center.
The last known owner was a mystery buyer who acquired the property in 2011 with ambitious plans to convert it into a five-star hotel. Unfortunately, these plans never materialized, leading to the estate being overrun by thieves and left in a state of neglect.
