Commenced to Serve: 1972 1992–1997 (G upgraded in 2015)–retired Expense: *$270 million The E-3 Sentry, developed by Boeing, is an airborne early warning and control aircraft. Known as AWACS, it’s based on the 707 aircraft and used by NATO, the USAF, RAF, FAF, and RSAF.
