That morning, as usual, Addison entered the forest. Just as he settled at his observation spot, a strange sound reached him—an animal’s cry, faint yet distressed. He froze, straining to locate it. The forest’s calm, broken by the unsettling cry, set his heart racing. Despite years outside, the sound was unlike anything he’d heard. Faint but urgent, it demanded attention. He waited for it to repeat, holding his breath. Seconds stretched until it rang out again—this time clearly from ahead, deeper in the woods. Concern surged. Whatever it was needed help. He grabbed his emergency bag and moved cautiously, careful not to startle a wounded animal, every step measured as he approached the source.
