9.A Puppy in Distress

In the dim of a damp cave, Addison discovered a black puppy. The small creature had fallen into a cavity and couldn’t climb out. Tiny and helpless, its eyes were still closed—a likely newborn. A chill ran through Addison as he grasped the danger. The slippery floor and unstable rocks made rescue risky. He switched on his flashlight, steady hands lighting the scene. In the tremulous beam, the puppy seemed so weak it almost vanished in shadow. He had to move with utmost care. Drawing on experience, he planned each motion to keep both safe. Every step was deliberate. One mistake could worsen things. For thirty minutes he advanced, testing each rock. The puppy, terrified or exhausted, stayed silent. At last he reached it. Lifting it gently, he felt surprising warmth against the cave’s chill—a fragile life still pulsing despite the odds.
