The Bouvier des Flandres is a Belgian herding breed from Northern Belgium. Historically used for heavy farm work—herding cattle, pulling carts, guarding flocks—it now often serves as a security or police dog in Europe, while U.S. agencies frequently use German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois.

Not aggressive but reserved with strangers, the Bouvier is deeply loyal and calmer than many breeds. Its name reflects its origin in Flanders. According to Animal Planet, Bouviers weigh 70–100 pounds and stand 23–26 inches at the shoulder. With a 10–12 year lifespan, they need ample exercise and stimulation, even off the farm.
