The Bedlington Terrier, nicknamed “Rothbury’s Lamb,” has a distinct lamb-like profile. Originally a vermin hunter, it later raced and became a popular show dog. Known for strong swimming, it has a generally gentle temperament.

Despite its amiable nature, breeders once called it “fit to kill another dog of its weight class.” Closely related to the Whippet, it hails from Northumberland and often lives around 13.5 years. Bedlingtons are sociable and lively, with keen hunting instincts and an excellent nose. Topping out at about eighteen inches, they shine at televised dog shows. Beyond hunting and the ring, they’re steadfast companions.
