The New Guinea Singing Dog is famed for vocalizations that blend yodel like rises with harmonic layers. Wild populations are extremely limited. Their tones resemble a mix of whale song and a wolf chorus. Researchers think they have changed little over thousands of years linking modern dogs to ancient ancestors. A fox like outline flexible spine and erect ears aid survival. Some live in conservation programs but their strong primitive drives make them unsuitable as household pets.
