11. Akita Inu

The Akita Inu is a giant breed from the mountains of northern Japan. They may seem calm and reserved, yet under their thick fur and curled tail is a large, powerful dog. Akitas are loyal and affectionate with their family but less so with strangers or other animals. Without proper socialization or training, Akitas can become challenging around people outside their usual circle. Extensive training can reduce the risks faced by many breeds on this list.
